THELMA FLORES GARZA

God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so He put His arm around you and whispered, “COME TO ME”. And so it came to pass, on July 16, 2022, that she heard OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, and made the journey to sit at the right side of her HEAVENLY FATHER. Thelma was born in Laredo, Texas on December 21, 1941, and was three years old when her family moved to Corpus Christi. She received her elementary schooling at Corpus Christi Cathedral. She graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1960 and went on to completing her Associates Degree at Del Mar College. With her business skills, she enjoyed working for Tana Oil & Gas. In 1958, she won first place in San Antonio’s Feria De Las Flores. Her parents, Joe & Estella Flores recognized the possibility of having this event through LULAC in the Corpus Christi area. In 1959, it became a reality as Feria De Las Flores, with the proceeds going to the contestants in the form of scholarships. Thelma was creative and sold arts and crafts, and donated her proceeds to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Hospital. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. With her loving husband of 56 years, Ruben Garza, they have two sons between them: Michael James (Connie) and Gerald Jeffrey, two grandsons – James & Ryan Garza, and beloved nieces and nephews: Adrie Grove, Jerry, Donna & Kathy Flores and Robert, Richard & Rodney Flores. As a devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of Most Precious Blood since the church’s inception of 1970. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, Liturgical Decorations Director, Guadalupanas, Woman’s Council, and volunteered in other areas of the church. Thelma will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe & Estela Flores, and brothers Joe and Bobby Flores. We are appreciative of Christus Hospice, Deborah Booker; caregivers Alma Villarreal and Edna & Jerry Garza. They are very special people to our family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Thelma Garza to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Memorial Services to celebrate Thelma’s life will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Seaside Funeral Home – the Rosary will begin at 6:00pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00am on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church with reception to follow.
