Bruce Wayne Sanders Dec. 17, 1941 - July 28, 2010 Our beloved Wayne Sanders, husband, father, grandfather and uncle, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Lee Sanders and Jewel Harbin Sanders, and brothers Russell Sanders and Doug Sanders. Wayne is survived by his beloved wife Cathy, his children Michael Sanders, Madelyn Uresti, Melanie Sanders, and Holly May. He also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren, four nieces, two nephews, and the mother of his children and her husband, Nora and Nelson Roberts. Wayne grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, and was a "boy of the sea". He graduated from Ray High School where he was a star athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and his great love, baseball. Wayne went on to Texas A&M on a baseball scholarship, but suffered a career-ending injury. Wayne went on to graduate from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in accounting. He went on to become Supervisor of the Accounting Department at UT Austin. Wayne continued his baseball career by coaching Oak Hill Pony League, and the Woodlawn Baptist Church Softball team. Wayne was always happy to "rise to the occasion" of leadership. Wayne became the president of the Oak Park Neighborhood Association, and went on to become the first president of the Oak Hill Neighborhoods Association Group. Wayne also served as Treasurer and President of the Onion Creek Homeowners Association. Wayne was active in Woodlawn Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School for many years. Wayne brought life, love and inspiration to the people in his life. He had a keen wit and sense of humor, bringing a smile or laugh to the hearts of everyone.
