Charlie Benefield House, known to family and friends as Benny, entered rest on July 5, 2012. Benny was born in Wewoka, OK on April 1, 1942 and moved with his family to Corpus Christi in 1951. In 1960 Benny graduated from W. B. Ray High School where he won All State honors as a member of the 1959 state championship football team. He was inducted into the W. B. Ray Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. He continued his education on a football scholarship at the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of the 1963 national championship Longhorn football team, playing in three Cotton Bowl Classics and graduating in 1964. Benny served two tours in Vietnam as a Captain with the United States Air Force and was awarded the Bronze Star. In 1968 he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Texas School of Law. Benny lived in Corpus Christi and Austin and settled in San Antonio in 2001. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie Scott House, and is survived by his son, John-Michael House; father, James B. House; brother, Jim House and wife Nancy; former wife Carol House; and nieces and nephews Sharon, Gary, Shelly and Glen. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio. The funeral service will follow at 2:00. Interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , P.O.
