Kirby Lee Wilson, Sr.

Kirby Lee Wilson, Sr.

Kirby Lee Wilson, Sr. went to be with his Lord on October 27, 2017, at the age of 75, in New Braunfels, Texas.  He was born in Kerrville, Texas, to Marvin Lee Wilson and Faye Cantwell Wilson on February 15, 1942.  Kirby grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, and was a graduate of W.B. Ray High School in 1960.  On July 27, 1963, he married the love of his life Irene Autry Wilson.  Together, they raised her younger brother, Jim Autry, until he went to Texas A&M University.  Following in the footsteps of his father and two uncles, Kirby was a Corpus Christi firefighter for over 13 years.  He and Irene had a daughter, Laura Frances Dixon, and a son, Kirby Lee Wilson, Jr., before moving to New Braunfels, Texas, in 1976, where they have lived for 41 years.  They owned and operated Wilson Fire Rescue, selling fire equipment and training the firefighters of Texas in automobile extrication.  Kirby’s business expertise was sales and fire/rescue training.  He was a hard worker and successful because as he said, “I always sold the best!”  He serviced what he sold as well.  In 1981, he began teaching at the Texas A&M Annual Municipal Fire Training School.  He continued teaching there for 17 years.

Kirby was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Lee Wilson, of Corpus Christi.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irene Wilson, his mother, Faye Wilson, of Rockport, one sister Loraine Fitzgerald and husband, Doug Fitzgerald of Rockport, brothers-in-law Jim Autry and wife Susan of Corpus Christi, Ed Autry of Hawkins, daughter, Laura Wilson Dixon and husband Paul Dixon of Helotes, son, Kirby Lee Wilson, Jr. and wife Tawny Kneese-Wilson of Melissa, and 7 beloved grandchildren:  Abigail Grace Dixon, Roland Andrew Dixon, Kirbi Straughn Wilson, Austin James Dixon, Gunnar Everett Wilson, Anna Claire Dixon, and Eli William Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.

Kirby was one of the cross-country runners, along with Servero Balboa, Elias De La Cruz, Gary Gill, me, and others.  We all enjoyed each others' company.  Sorry to see him go.
