Larry Russell

In 1957, Ralph helped me get a job as a paper boy. We used to roll down Maryland Street at 4:50 in the morning singing at the top of our lungs...'twas a good summer. Ralph went on to become a very successful businessman in Austin. One of his businesses was a translation service, and he also had a restaurant. We visited several times with him and his wife Diane and their 2 girls, both in Austin and Houston and also in Santa Fe one December. Ralph kept up well with his friends from high school and was always good with a story or a new joke. His 2 little girls, adopted from Russia, made very pleasant house guests for us. The last time I saw him was at a big 90th birthday party he gave for his mother in Austin in 2007. Certainly Ralph was one of our most clever and interesting classmates.

My dear Ralph, I still cannot believe you are gone. From our days of walking home together from Menger, to the wonderful times we had together in San Miguel in the late 90's....you and Fred tearing up the tennis courts at Walter Webers!!! How I cherish each and every minute I had with you! God bless your dear Diane and the precious little girls...one whom I am still hoping will be my little Russian ballerina! I will miss you always. Ralph was one of my best friends from the beginning of the 5th grade at Menger until the time of his death. We played Little League baseball together and I used to ride with him when he delivered papers. He was a very bright and friendly person who became an extremely successful and capable businessman. He always enjoyed coming to our class reunions with his lovely wife Diane. Ralph and I stayed in close contact for the last 10 or 15 years of his life and managed to see each other at least 2 or 3 times a year. Through Ralph I got to know Larry Russell and Kenneth Marshall better than I had in high school. I miss my friend Ralph; may God look after him. Ronnie
