In Memory

Richard Gray

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Sterling Gray announce his passing on August 4, 2020.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years Frances, his children Susan Ryan (Derrick), Christopher Gray (Lauren) and Roslyn Gray (Angie Maloney), his grandchildren Francine Gray-Maloney and Mavis Gray-Maloney, his brother Tim Gray (Judy) and sister Vicky Gray along with his large extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents Pat and Elizabeth Gray and his sister Eunice Floy Campbell.

In 1965 Richard graduated from Texas A&I with a B.S. in Education and began his career as a 6th grade teacher at Gibson Elementary in the Corpus Christi Independent School District. He also taught at Calallen ISD and coached at Odom Junior High School.

Richard continued his career with the Boerne Independent School district in 1985 as an assistant principal at Boerne Middle School. Richard retired from teaching and school administration in 2003.

He was a coach for the Corpus Christi city league girls slow pitch softball state champion, Baby Bombers.

He will be missed by his friends with the AKC and American Staffordshire Terrier Club where he was a breeder and handler for almost 50 years. He served as president and a member of the board of directors for over 15 years. His kennel, Rounders won the National Specialty in his breed three times in 1972, 1978 and 2006. He was a member of the Mission City Stewards club for many years. Richard was an avid sports fan; he enjoyed high school football, track and field, basketball, and baseball. If he wasn’t participating or coaching these sports, he was watching them. He cherished spending time with his family and his dogs.

There will not be a service at this time. A memorial and celebration of his life will be planed for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the charity of your choice or donating to the Archives Committee of American Staffordshire Club of America (donations are accepted via PayPal: treasurer@amstaff.org).

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at River City Hospice for their care and compassion. We would also like to thank the many friends, family members, former students and colleagues that have reached out during this time. He was truly loved, respected and will be missed.
