David was a special guy! What an encouragement he was! Long before we really knew much about cancer, David was fighting it. After losing his leg, he courageously played and marched in the W.B.Ray Fighting Texan Band. What an inspiration he was--always determined, positive, kind and good.

David and I were in scouts and church starting about 6th or 7th grade. We sure made a lot of camping trips together. He and I worked on getting our hiking merit badges together. For our practice hikes, he would vector us to some charming gal's house for a visit along about midway. That certainly made hiking more attractive in the Corpus climate. The last hike was a 20 miler from just outside Port Aransas to the toll gate for the Padre causeway. Good company for such a walk!

David was always a fellow with a positive attitude and never a complainer or drag on things. I really admired the way he toughed things out to the last. He was truly a fine, admirable fellow.

David was one of the nicest guys ever.He had a great family.  We all went to St. Luke's Methodist Church together.  I remember a date--dancing at the Boy Scout Hut.  We sang in church choir;  and it was during   choir practice that David told  our director about a spot on his leg that wouldn't heal.  It's like it was yesterday.  She told him to let his folks know right away so he could get it checked out.  It was hard to say "goodbye" so young.  Darby.

I recall how shocked I was when David came back to school that Fall with his leg amputated. All he wanted was to march in the band at the Ray/Miller game & to graduate. Although he got his first wish, unfortunately he didn't get his second. He was a delightful young man.
